Food and drink in Bordeaux with my best friend.
I had so much fun that i forgot to take photos => i used zoom ins of my friends photos so they're slightly blurry, désolé :)
I have the greatest luxury known to man, to have my best friend visit me in a walkable city. Through her presence I have rediscovered a Bordeaux that I had lost sight of. The sunlight on our skin, the rain on our coats, the grass touching our hands. These bland things that I looked past all harmonized while she was here and made me realize that I actually quite like this town, even after four years.
As you may already know, I lost my job. I kept a good relationship with my old colleagues so I wanted to visit. We went to my most recent restaurant adventure where she had a spinach and goats cheese lasagna and I had aubergine stuffed with cheese. She said it was delicious and so was mine. I paid, my treat.
It’s been eleven years I've known my best friend, we went to the same school. She’s incredible. She attracts people towards her with her inviting presence, to the point of getting plenty of free things. Yesterday we (well she) was given a banana and chocolate cookie which we shared once we got home. We enjoyed it with a Macha from Café Brazza. It was made in front of us with the bamboo whisk and the flavour was earthy and bitter but not so much that it dries up your mouth. My best friend says its tastes the same when you make it at home. She really likes matcha. So much so that she introduced me to matcha with coconut milk. I hate coconut milk but with the sweetness of the (this time) blended tea, it was delightful.
On her first day in the city, we enjoyed a margarita pizza and a glass of Lambrusco. We like Lambrusco now. I genuinely think they were one of the best pizzas around.it's a chained restaurant called Trippleta. I believe they have 4 restaurants in the whole of France. Definitely worth checking out. The waitress was lovely and soft spoken. We walked around that day and did a bit of sight seeing.
We met up with multiple of my friends who wanted to see her again. It's part of my best friends inviting personality I think, people remember her fondly and always want to come for more. She’s incredibly intelligent and charismatique, its obvious to me why they would want to meet with her again. Of course when did not only eat out on her short sejour in the south. I made a coconut, french bean and chickpea curry for us.
All I did was cook some aromatics, onions, garlic lots of curcuma and curry powder. added my vegetables and then my coconut cream. It's not the best curry but it's an easy recipe and you can make it in 20 minutes. My friends liked it, one of them even brought back the leftovers with her.
On our last day, we spent two hours looking for a lively bar however Bordeaux was dead that night. Sadly we didn't get to dance but we sat on a terrasse and talked while my best friend eavesdropped on strangers. On our table was a pint of IPA, a bloody mary and a mojito. My glass being the bloody mary!
She took the train home this morning. In Paris she had a Burger King. I miss her already.
